Wednesday and Thursday we spent our time getting ready for Friday and Saturday. Gail visited Grace Creche and Peach Tree. Jim and Selvam gathered materials (one waits for the electricity to go on at the lumber shop), and start the SEW crate (Sewing Empowering Women). We get a good start on the crate Thursday, and Gail and Ann find that
the idea of doing stories of the flood from three religious perspectives has produced healing and empowering discussions among the teachers and parents. Friday
the preparations for the Brahma-Vishnu-Matsya-Manu-Demon story are intense. The skit is planned for two o'clock, and the childr
en are awakened from their nap at quarter of. The introduction by the producers, Hilda, Ann, and Gail, starts at about quarter after. The children are patient and excited as they wait for the production to begin. The teachers make last minute corrections to make-up and costume.
Gail introduces the flood theme by telling of the flood in Nashville and asking about Tsunamis and Monsoons.
Brahma has fallen asleep, preparing to start a new cosmic cycle. Things on earth get complex as Manu meets a tiny fish, Matsya, an avatar of Vishnu, and a demon swipes the Vedas from Brahma. The fish grows and floodwaters threaten. Matsya becomes a suitable size to do battle with the demon and help Manu rescue animals from the flood. The demon is defeated and the Vedas given to Manu. Brahma awakes.
