Whoa – lose ends: in LA, We spent Monday, while Ben worked, at
the two downtown MOCA's – Museum of Contemporary Art. Truly a rich showing, including a very large painting by Alexandra Grant, Sumana's long time friend. Walking back to the car at sunset revealed another reason the Architecture in CA is so vibrant – here, the Walt Disney Performance Center.
Tuesday, Ben, Gail and I, celebrated my birthday by going to the MOCA Pacific Design location to see an exhibit of the architect/composer Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001), and taking sauna at Wi Spa, a Koreatown hot spot figuratively and o
therwise.
Our last day in the States, we packed and went to the laundromat, but took time to visit Ben at work, The Self Reali
zation Fellowship ''Mother Center', atop Mount Washington on the northern edge of LA. Here he is showing some of the work he does maintaining and improving the 4 acre park around the offices and dormitories.
The view from that terrace northeast shows the snow-capped mountains afar. In the opposite direction from the front yard, there' another view of LA and the distant ocean and Santa Canalena.
We took off that night at midnight to Auckland, flew for thirteen hours and l
anded a day and a half later (Date Line, - and Equator!).
We took the Shuttle bus over Eden Mountain to downtown, left our stuff at the hotel and walked a few blocks to the waterfront for lunch, some views, and a little grocery shopping. It is high summer here, still light at 9:00 and we're pooped.
