May 27 - 30 Bangor, Holyhead, Dublin, Home

I'd like to say we hopped into Annie's Tardis, fiddled with a few knobs and were transported instantly home to Nashville. Here it is as complete as Jim could get it. Phil later took the tarp, wrapped it around, leaving one of the side windows clear for Annie to get in and out – it must look like a a monster marshmallow sitting in the pines. We each figured out how to use the self timer for this one, propping our cameras on the picnic table. Phil drove us to Bangor on the Menai Straight, which separates Anglesey Island from the mainland. We settle in our hotel and (you guessed it) went for a walk. The northern latitude allowed us to stroll in broad daylight 'til 8 P.M. We went out on the 'Victorian' (Garth) Pier, and had a nice chat with the proprietor of a tea shop in one of the kiosks that pepper the edges (spotted the closed shop run by the local Soroptimists). Here's the cafe site: http://www.whistlestopbangorpier.co.uk/ . We have not determined whether this stone ring site is authentic, therefore conclude it is not. Next morning crossed the Straight by train, landed in Holyhead at the northwestern tip of Wales and had time for a you know what before the ferry for Dublin. Saw another Roman wall, sailboats and a lovely little marine museum in an old rescue boat station (Gail had tea as Jim wandered within). Then the ferry 'Ulysses' surged away from the dock, passed the 'head' of Holyhead, and 3-1/2 hours later we were in Dublin, greeted by Para-surfers. Another hotel night, the flight in the morning, delayed landing in Chicago, including a stop for fuel in Detroit, then the classic weather delayed stay in ONE MORE HOTEL! Nashville on the 30th, bright and early. We were happy to be back, but refrained from kissing the ground.
